Give It All Now

Human-Scale Philanthropy

Philanthropists have a way of spreading their grants thinly. Doing a little good, making small contributions, in lots of places. It's enough to feel good about, but rarely enough to change anything.

The Alfred Kobacker and Elizabeth Trimbach Fund takes the opposite approach. We call it Human-Scale Philanthropy. We concentrate our investment in exceptional individuals, rather than institutions.

We don't fund organizations. We fund people. Exceptional people. Often these are visionaries who are already doing the work, unable to not do the work, but often delayed and encumbered by lack of needed resources. And when we find them, we ask what they need and we try to provide it. We make the kind of commitment that frees them to do what only they can do.

Since 2021, operating as a donor-advised fund at The Columbus Foundation, AKET has deployed over four million dollars through thirty-three grants. To a marine biologist fighting for the legal rights of nature. A journalist and filmmaker confronting and updating the world on the truth behind the arms industry and the very real and present threat of nuclear war. And a writer whose words cut through the noise of our time.

Three people. Three urgent causes. Decisive funding at the moment it matters most. That's our idea of Human-Scale Philanthropy.
